CANDLE CARE & SAFETY
T I P S
You do not need to trim your wick before lighting your candle for the first time. However, all candles require the burnt charred tip of the wick to be trimmed to ¼ of an inch between uses, with details for your specific candle provided on your wick trimming guide, which is a card that is located within the box. If your wicks are short, they do not need to be trimmed.
Light the candle for a minimum of 2-4 hours for the first burn, larger candle jars will require a longer 1st burn (maximum of 4 hours at any one time).
Allow your candle wax to create a melt pool which comes close to the edge of the vessel. If your 1st burn is too short, the melt pool will not reach towards the edge of the container and you risk the candle remaining as the width of the initial burn when you continue to use it. Please note that some jars will not reach a full melt pool until the 2nd or 3rd burn due to their shape.
Your melt pool will guide you in burn times; if the melt pool becomes too deep this will indicate you have reached maximum burn time.
If you burn your candle for a short time after the 1st burn, for under 90 minutes, wick trimming will not be required. We recommend each burn is a minimum of 2 hours so that you can trim the wick between use, to preserve the aesthetic and candle quality.
Trimming your wick is integral to the scent and burn quality of the candle and to avoid mushrooming. Mushrooming is when carbon and/or other substances build up on the end of the wick, interfering with combustion. Mushrooming can cause sooting and is more likely if you burn the candle for longer than the recommended time. Remove any mushrooming or dead wick by trimming between uses.
If you cannot smell the scent of the candle you are burning, leave the room for a few minutes to allow your olfactory sense to adjust. Your sense of smell (olfactory) can block out scents in your immediate surroundings and you may need to leave and return to an area to fully appreciate the scent.
- Check for the ingredients listed on the product page for allergies, if you have a reaction stop using immediately. Every candle has a CLP for allergens. Please be aware that equipment used may have traces of different oil and wax blends which could be present in any candle, for a full list of oils used or for safety data sheets please contact info@kyriablends.com
- Ensure equal burn across the top layer of wax by burning for a minimum of 2 hours for the first burn, some jars may not burn to the full circumference of the candle on the first burn
- Maximum burn: 4 hours at one time- we recommend slightly shorter burn times for when the candle reaches further down the jar and for stoneware vessels
- Never leave a lit candle unattended & always keep a candle in sight
- Keep away from anything that could catch fire & anything flammable
- Keep a distance between your candle and walls
- Keep away from pets & children
- Use stable, heat resistant surfaces
- Do not move or touch when wax is liquefied
- Do not trim the wick if you burned the candle for a very short period of time (less than 1 hour), as this could cause the wick to drown in the melt pool
- If you experience a drowned wick, try to relight that wick only and tilt the candle so that the wax moves away from the wick. Use a cotton bud to remove some liquid wax next to the wick. Dispose of the cotton buds and continue until a normal size flame is achieved. For more guidance please contact info@kyriablends.com
- If you have a drowned wick a multi-wick candle, light only the affected wick. Once the drowned candle wick has been lit for some time check to see that all wicks are the same length and the wax surface is level. If all are the same, extinguish the single wick and light all wicks. For more guidance please contact info@kyriablends.com
- As an alternative to wick trimming, you can remove burnt wick with your fingers with a tissue. Ensure that the wick is unlit and has completely cooled; pinch the tip and the dead wick should fall off into the tissue. The tissue can be disposed of before relighting
- Keep the wax pool clear from wicks, trimmings and debris
- Do not put any crystals, flowers, herbs into the candle melt pool and keep the candle free from debris at all times- anything in the melt pool that could ignite is a fire hazard
- Do not burn to the bottom of the jar- stop using once 1/2 inch is left
- As we use natural wax, spillages wipe off many surfaces with warm water and a cloth
- When the candle is finished the pot can be cleaned and reused. For further guidance on how to do so safely please contact info@kyriablends.com Ensure all wax is thoroughly removed before reusing as kitchenware. We are not liable for anything that occurs as a result of cleaning and reusing vessels.
- Avoid burning several candles in a small room where air exchange is limited and always place candles 3 inches apart
- Do not touch or move the candle until it has cooled. Jars can become extremely hot during use, please wait for the jar to cool before touching or moving
- Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high, the wax pool ignites or it flickers repeatedly. Never use water to extinguish a candle
- Ensure you leave the candle in sight, away from drafts and air currents
- You should burn candles in well ventilated rooms for candle safety. However, drafts from windows and doors will impact on the scent and burn quality of a candle whilst burning. Irregularities and drafts can cause sooting, smoking, flickering and uneven burns. Drafts will reduce fragrance and aromatherapy benefits. Ventilate rooms well before and after use
- Always extinguish a candle before you go to sleep
- Flame marks on the inside of the jar can be wiped away with a damp cloth. Extinguish the candle, ensure the wax is solid and the jar has cooled before wiping clean. Matt jars may require a soapy cloth. Ensure the candle is dry before relighting
- Frosting, cracks or crystals on the surface of the wax may appear. This is a natural characteristic of natural wax and does not affect the candle or burn quality
- Wax may move away from the vessel during transport and adhesion is affected, consequently, a "wet spot" may appear. This is due to temperature fluctuations and does not affect the quality of the product
